Temporary Import and Conditions of Vehicles with Foreign Plates

Persons residing abroad may temporarily bring one foreign-plated land vehicle registered in their name at their place of residence to Turkey. Persons residing in the European Union and European Free Trade Union countries can also bring their vehicles registered in their names in the European Union and European Free Trade Union countries other than their place of residence. Persons who will bring a vehicle must first meet the condition of being resident abroad.

Being resident abroad; means that the person residing abroad in the ordinary situation has been abroad for at least 185 days in the last 1 year, backwards from the date he wishes to enter Turkey. It is obligatory for those who will bring a vehicle to have a residence abroad. Persons who work on ships, temporarily work at the construction site or stay at the hotel are not considered to be resident abroad, even though they have actually spent 185 days of the last 1 year abroad, since they have not established a residence abroad.

The 185-day period for residing abroad is calculated through the program according to the passport entry-exit records obtained from the General Directorate of Security. Passport or identity information is entered into the program, the program calculates the period of stay in Turkey and abroad by going back 1 year -365 days- from the date of entry to Turkey. Persons who have entered and exited Turkey with different passports or IDs in the last 1 year are required to inform the customs administration so that the 185-day period is not calculated incorrectly. As a result of the calculation, persons who have spent more than 185 days in total in the last year, intermittently or uninterruptedly, and who reside abroad in the usual situation, meet the condition of being a resident abroad.

For the first time, after the retirement date of those who retired from abroad,
For the vehicle registered in their names to be brought, the 185-day period stipulated in the conditions of being a resident abroad is not sought.
Retirees who go abroad with their vehicle without using the entire 730-day period
If they want to re-enter Turkey to take advantage of this period,
The 185-day period stipulated in the condition of being a resident abroad is not sought and the remaining time for their vehicles is not required.
